Everyone’s talking about the war in the Gaza Strip, but why did it happen now? Why does it raise such a high emotional response? What can we do about it? Come and hear experts in this teach-in and join the conversation. The event will be divided between three 10-minute presentations, followed by an hour of Q&A. Prof. Nitzan Lebovic will talk about the history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict; Prof. Sa’ed Atshan will talk about pacifism, peace, and justice in Palestine/Israel. Prof. Allison Mickel will talk about how looking at objects--from artifacts to infrastructure--can reveal even more about conditions of oppression and possibilities for peace

  • Sa'ed Atshan, Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies and Anthropology, and the Chair of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Swarthmore College
  • Nitzan Lebovic, Professor of History and the Apter Chair of Holocaust Studies and Ethical Values, at Lehigh University
  • Allison Mickel, Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Director of Global Studies
