Brian Merchant is a writer, tech journalist, and author of a bestselling book about the iPhone, The One Device. His next book, due out this spring, is Blood in the Machine: The Origins of the Rebellion Against Big Tech


Merchant will be on campus to discuss his new book, as well as the benefits and harm from technology.  This event is part of the Year of Learning.  The Year of Learning is an annual college-wide initiative that focuses the Lehigh Business students and faculty on a particular area of interest through classroom activities and campus events.


Merchant founded Automaton, a site that examines the human impact of automation, for Gizmodo, is an editor at Motherboard, VICE’s science and technology outlet, and the founder/editor of Terraform, its online fiction site. He is also the co-editor of a print anthology of Terraform stories, called Terraform: Watch/Worlds/Burn (2022). His work has appeared in the New York Times, Harper's, Wired, the Atlantic, the LA Times, the Guardian, Slate, VICE Magazine, Fast Company, Fortune, and beyond.




This event qualifies for the Student to Professional co-curriculum and the Professional Growth and Success 5x10 Foundation.
