The International Relations Department and the Efron Speakers series present "Seeking Legitimacy, Eschewing Violence: The Moderating Effect of Rebel International Relations on Sexual Violence Perpetration" with Christopher P. Willis. Willis will discuss the impact of rebel group engagement in international relations on their propensity to perpetrate sexual violence during conflict. He argues that rebel groups which desire to be seen as legitimate in the international system will have incentives to constrain their violent repertoires by limiting the use of sexual violence. Moreover, the international community and other states can socialize rebel groups into international norms of behavior and condition support on right conduct.
