About this Event
The series “Firing Line: Conversations with Contemporary Cuban Artists”, organized by Gerardo Muñoz (Lehigh University) will begin Friday January 22, and it will feature five contemporary Cuban artists currently living in Cuba. The artists in the series include the Mujercitos Collective, Camila Ramirez Lobón, Hamlet Lavastida, Reynier Novo, and Raychel Carrión.
In the wake of the artist protest that took place this past 27th of November in Havana much has been written about the new artistic activism and political expediency of the youngest generation of Cuban artists, who demand cultural autonomy from recent administrative decrees of the state bureaucracy. This series seeks to explore the diverse practices discourses, and imaginaries at play in the works of these young artists, who are the leading voices of the current artistic scene in the island.
The series will be open to the general public, via Zoom as well as a “live streaming” at Columna Cultural site. The series is a collaboration with Elena Molina, independent researcher in Barcelona and director of Columna Cultural. For general questions write to gem317@lehigh.edu
