DESCRIPTION:A candidate for the College of Health's Health Data Scientist -
  Ethics of Artificial Intelligence position is a doctoral candidate in a Sc
 hool of Policy and Government and is expected to graduate in Spring 2023. T
 he candidate has a research focus on emerging technologies and their impact
 s on society. Their dissertation\, Ethical and Regulatory Frameworks to  Su
 pport Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare\, investigates the 
 three factors of economics\, technology\, and public policy on the diffusio
 n of trustworthy AI in healthcare. Their dissertation takes an interdiscipl
 inary approach to understanding the challenges faced by regulators and poli
 cy makers in providing adequate oversight that helps to ease the ethical co
 ncerns of stakeholders in a 360-degree perspective. The candidate has been 
 an adjunct professor since 2016 and has taught in both a College of Busines
 s and a College of Computational and Data Sciences. As an instructor\, they
  believes it is important to make classroom information relevant to the stu
 dents and their interests. This approach helps with absorption of informati
 on and increases student interest in theories and methodologies that can be
  foreign.  \n \n\nOutside of their academic work\, the candidate is a data 
 scientist with over 20 years of experience in finance and strategic plannin
 g leadership roles. The bulk of their experience has been focused on data d
 riven decision making related to technology\, economic gain\, and organizat
 ional performance in industries that have had a large impact on society and
  national\, and international policy. The primary industries in which they 
 have worked (telecommunications\, software\, and energy) have all played a 
 role in global technology change over the last twenty years. \n\nOther acad
 emic credentials held by the candidate include a Master of Business Adminis
 tration and dual undergraduate degrees in Finance and Economics. The candid
 ate will also complete a Master of Science degree in Data Analytics and Eng
 ineering in the fall of 2023.\n \n\nResearch Talk: "Short to Mid-term Resea
 rch Efforts Related to Ethical AI in Healthcare"\nAbstract: With a focus on
  interdisciplinary research\, the candidate will detail their plans to foll
 ow 3 tracks in a research portfolio and will provide context for projects i
 n the short to mid-term. The three tracks discussed will include: 1) the co
 ntinuation of research related to their dissertation project that will fill
  any gaps that exist in both theory and data and the inclusion of empirical
  data into the dissertation work\, 2) the role AI in healthcare can play to
  eliminate systemic inequities in patient care\, 3) potential development o
 f solutions that can benefit underserved patient populations and help mitig
 ate systemic inequities.
