ABSTRACT: The IEEE Future Directions Committee(FDC) anticipates and determines the direction of existing, new, and emerging technologies and spearheads their investigation and development by IEEE. Taking a holistic view, the FDC emphasizes new, emerging technical areas and drives them to maturity within the IEEE infrastructure. The IEEE Alternative Energy Generation and Storage initiative under FDC champions emerging technologies on energy generation and storage to meet the energy needs of terrestrial, ocean, and space usage and support the transition to net-zero. The initiative seeks to extend the existing focus of relevant societies with content and events that aim for less-covered topics, such as advanced nuclear reactors and nuclear fusion energy, geothermal energy, biomass, ocean- and space-based power generation, hydrogen, and new storage technologies.
