ABSTRACT: Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and 10 local power companies were selected by the Department of Energy (DOE) to enter into negotiations with DOE’s Grid Deployment Office for a $250 million grant from DOE’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program. The “System Hardening for Coalition of Local Power Companies and Tennessee Valley Authority” will fund 84 energy security projects to increase grid capacity, add over 2,400 MWs of transmission grid capacity, mitigate extreme weather risks, and speed development of clean energy projects. Project will create the first interconnection tie between TVA and the Southwest Power Pool, providing the Tennessee Valley with 800 MW of new energy supply. The grant will support 360 disadvantaged communities across eight states, creating 800 jobs over five years. Benefits include shorter outages and increasing access to clean energy for customers.
