AbstractEnergy must be reliable and affordable, as has always been required, but to combat climate change, it must also be sustainable. This is the energy trilemmaNew York has one of the most ambitious climate laws in the nation. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, signed into law on July 18, 2019, requires a 40% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and at least an 85% reduction by 2050 from 1990 levels. As a regulated utility serving over 4.2 M electricity and natural gas customers in New York, National Grid plays a key role in meeting these goals. National Grid has developed a strategy to navigate the energy trilemma, with the vision to be at the heart of a clean, fair, and affordable energy transition.

Bio: Laura is a Senior Analyst on National Grid’s New York Future of Electric team where she works with stakeholders across the business to develop short-term strategy and robust long-term plans to facilitate a clean energy transition. She earned a B.S. in Integrated Engineering and Social Science from Lehigh University’s IDEAS program, studying Materials Engineering, Economics, and Environmental Policy. She also earned an M.Eng. Energy Systems Engineering from Lehigh University in 2022.
