You may know about Lehigh MOOV-in, but have you heard about Lehigh Moveout? Every year across the US students leave their college campuses and discard mountains of reusable goods that wind up in the waste stream. But thanks to Lehigh Community Service Office leadership our university became one of the first places in the country to develop a program dubbed Lehigh Moveout, which collects students' unwanted items, and then redistributes some locally, and then sells tons of donated reusable goods in a huge one day event every June. We'll share a bit of that backstory with you, and explain how Lehigh Moveout and The Great Southside Sale have become vital environmental and social justice projects that help to keep our nearby neighborhoods clean, remove tons of items from the waste stream, and make terrific reusable goods truly affordable for local residents...while sale proceeds fund programs for Southside youth! Lehigh Moveout and The Great Southside Sale sale nurture connections between town and gown by engaging community volunteers who work alongside Lehigh folks in May, and the culminating sale provides our whole community with a wonderful festive event every June. Light refreshments provided, bring you lunch if you like!
This K@N session will discuss the importance of this initiative. We're hoping you'll want to join in the fun!
