Abstract - Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF) is a 501(c)(3) organization . It was founded in 1999 through a settlement approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission during the state’s electric deregulation proceedings. Since then, SEF has been a leading financer of sustainable energy projects and has greatly expanded its services with the goal of seeking a sustainable energy future. The talk will focus on the financial aspects of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The session will include introducing economic evaluation methods, including simple payback, internal rate of return, net present value, and life cycle costing. That will then be followed by typical financing methods, including Pennsylvania’s newest Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Financing.
Bio - John Costlow, CRM, CSDP, REP, PCF, CPHC is President & CEO of Sustainable Energy Fund. As President Mr. Costlow provides vision, leadership and overall management of the Sustainable Energy Fund. Sustainable Energy Fund is a nonprofit organization that assists energy users in overcoming educational, financial and regulatory barriers to a sustainable energy future. SEF finances a variety of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects through commercial loans, energy savings agreements and power purchase agreement. Prior to joining SEF, Mr. Costlow served in management capacities throughout the energy industry including Manager of Marketing and Energy Conservation for Florida Public Utilities and Vice President of Energy Control Companies. Mr. Costlow is a veteran of the US Navy where he served as a submarine nuclear reactor operator. Mr. Costlow has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Palm Beach Atlantic University and is a graduate of Naval Nuclear Power School. He is a certified Performance Contracting and Funding Professional, Certified Sustainable Development Professional, Certified Carbon Reduction Manager, Certified Renewable Energy Professional and Certified Passive House Consultant. Mr. Costlow has served as President of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers and as Chair for Mid Atlantic Bio Energy Council.
