About this Event
Please join us as we feature the work of a new faculty member Prof. Rochelle Frounfelker and presentation titled "Addressing Mental Health of Refugee Populations"
Professor Frounfelker will discuss the risk of mental health disorders among refugees and how their risk is heightened when compared to the general population. The health care system needs to consider three broad issues when addressing health disparities and utilization of mental health care: accessibility, cultural adaptation of services, and broader social determinants of health. Research partnerships with refugee communities can promote the successful identification and cultural adaptation of services to meet the unique needs of different refugee populations. Community-based participatory research with refugee populations has the potential to accurately identify and understand the needs, challenges, and strengths of refugee populations
